Understanding Product Environmental Footprint

Understanding Product Environmental Footprint

Project start date: 12 December 2024

What is the objective of the Working Group?

Since flow batteries are required to have a Carbon Footprint Declaration from 2030 onwards, we are launching a working group to develop a carbon footprint calculation methodology for flow batteries.

The project will influence the development of carbon footprint calculation rules for flow batteries by working closely with industry stakeholders to collaborate on a methodology that meets specific needs and is rigorously tested.

We currently have 16 participants in the working group, see below. Interested in joining it? See here.

Why join the working group?

  • Influence: co-create the carbon footprint calculation rules for flow batteries.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with industry stakeholders to ensure the methodology meets specific requirements and is rigorously tested.

  • Prepare your business: Get ahead with data analysis and processing skills essential for future carbon footprint calculations.

This project is vital to define critical aspects of the final rules, such as the functional unit, representative manufacturing process, verification of flow battery lifetime, end-of-life processes, data modelling, and many more. To ensure comprehensive and accurate rules, we want to engage the entire supply chain, including suppliers, research organisations, and manufacturers. Various stakeholders have already officially committed to the project. See an overview visual about the Working Group here.

How to take part in the working group?

If you would like to join the project, please sign and send back the A Letter of Commitment to Beata Virsumirska, FBE Policy Officer. Email b.virsumirska@flowbatterieseurope.eu
